David Drexler is also among the contributors; as soon as I find where I put his composition, up it will go. Once we have a good number in place (right now it's 32 measures, probably about two minutes' worth), let's figure out an order!

Welcome to the Golijov Bailout Project

Osvaldo Golijov set the nonpop music world twittering & chirping when he turned in a well-paid commission by three dozen orchestras. Sidereus was an orchestration of another composer's work, Michael Ward-Bergeman's Barbeich. It's a long story and well covered here and here and here and here and of course here, with it broken by Tom Manoff (his original blog post on the topic is now gone). 

Not long afterward on Facebook, composers Sean O'Boyle and Dave Sartor came up with the idea of many composers contributing four measures each for Golijov's new commission and taking the work off his shoulders ... and the commission cash, of course. Daniel Wolf (with a superior blog, Renewable Music) suggested we open a blog to show off these brilliant pro bono measures.

So "Golijov's Cakewalk" (yeah, I know, bad pun) is a home for those sets of measures, eventually to be a full composition for performance by Some Famous Orchestra You May Have Heard Of. Scores and audio to be posted shortly.

We're having a little fun here, and hope that perhaps the estimable Mr. Golijov will join us with his own four measures. We like to share.
