Sean O'Boyle and Dave Sartor suggested composers write four measures each, relieving Golijov's work and commission cash. Daniel Wolf suggested a blog for these brilliant pro bono measures. "Golijov's Cakewalk" is their home. Will a full composition be played by Some Famous Orchestra You May Know? Let's have some fun. Perhaps Mr. Golijov will join us with his own four measures.Kalvoshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00466624332215821786noreply@blogger.comBlogger5125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392334805457196305.post-57010886295660545432012-04-11T10:44:00.000-07:002012-04-11T10:48:33.437-07:00Up to Date with Dave<span style="font-size: large;"><b>David Drexler</b>'s contribution is found! Actually, right on his own website. Here's a link to the PDF score:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://drexlermusic.com/temp/golijov/Golijov_Bailout_Drexler.pdf" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="207" src="http://drexlermusic.com/temp/golijov/Golijov_Bailout_Drexler.png" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">And here is the audio: <a href="http://drexlermusic.com/temp/golijov/Golijov_Bailout_Drexler.mp3">http://drexlermusic.com/temp/golijov/Golijov_Bailout_Drexler.mp3</a></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I think we're up to date ... so ... next composers?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>Kalvoshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00466624332215821786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392334805457196305.post-62109868391618774762012-04-11T09:59:00.000-07:002012-04-11T10:48:21.368-07:00Two minutes down, 18 to go...<span style="font-size: large;">The word about the Golijov Bailout Movement (GBM) is getting around. Perfectionist <b>Sean O'Boyle</b> submitted a revised version of his score:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/oboyle-rev-gol.pdf" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="253" src="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/oboyle-rev-gol.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Here is the entertaining audio: </span><a href="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/oboyle-rev-gol.mp3"><span style="font-size: large;">http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/oboyle-rev-gol.mp3</span></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">And new contributing composer <b>Brent Straughan</b> offered this micro-gem:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/straughan-gol.pdf" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/straughan-gol.jpg" width="182" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Here is his audio for the piece: </span><a href="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/straughan-gol.mp3"><span style="font-size: large;">http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/straughan-gol.mp3</span></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">David Drexler is also among the contributors; as soon as I find where I put his composition, up it will go. Once we have a good number in place (right now it's 32 measures, probably about two minutes' worth), let's figure out an order!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>James Bohn</b> (image links to PDF):</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/bohn-gol.pdf" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/bohn-gol1.jpg" width="247" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">and James Bohn's audio: <a href="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/bohn-golijov.mp3">http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/bohn-golijov.mp3</a><span id="goog_1419802988"></span><span id="goog_1419802989"></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Peter Breiner</b>:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/breiner-gol.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/breiner-gol.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">No audio yet for Peter's.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">and the original golgangsta, </span><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Sean O'Boyle</b>:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/oboyle-gol.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://maltedmedia.com/golijovscakewalk/oboyle-gol.jpg" width="249" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">No audio for Sean's for now, either.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>Kalvoshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00466624332215821786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392334805457196305.post-5901057484759955752012-04-06T09:35:00.000-07:002012-04-06T10:33:43.235-07:00<span style="font-size: large;">Daniel Wolf thought this might be better named the "Golijov Bailout Movement". Yes. Good. And so we begin with Dave Sartor, Dennis Báthory-Kitsz and Chris Milmerstadt....</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://davidsartor.com/media/4mm.mp3"><b>Dave Sartor</b></a></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ecmilmerstadt/composition/intro.htm" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Chris Milmerstadt</b></span></a><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>Kalvoshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00466624332215821786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7392334805457196305.post-1046928642457153132012-04-06T07:10:00.000-07:002012-04-06T07:10:35.997-07:00Welcome to the Golijov Bailout Project<span style="font-size: large;"><b><a href="http://www.osvaldogolijov.com/" target="_blank">Osvaldo Golijov</a></b> set the nonpop music world twittering & chirping when he turned in a well-paid commission by three dozen orchestras. <i>Sidereus</i> was an orchestration of another composer's work, Michael Ward-Bergeman's <i>Barbeich</i>. It's a long story and well covered <a href="http://www.newmusicbox.org/articles/truth-and-consequences/" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.newmusicbox.org/articles/a-real-mess/" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/classical-beat/post/from-pastiche-to-appropriation-golijov-and-siderus/2012/02/21/gIQAbyVRRR_blog.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/08/arts/music/osvaldo-golijov-fracas-over-sidereus-overture.html" target="_blank">here</a> and of course <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/culture/2012/02/osvaldo-golijov-sidereus.html" target="_blank">here</a>, with it broken by Tom Manoff (his original blog post on the topic is now gone). </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Not long afterward on Facebook, composers Sean O'Boyle and Dave Sartor came up with the idea of many composers contributing four measures each for Golijov's new commission and taking the work off his shoulders ... and the commission cash, of course. Daniel Wolf (with a superior blog, <a href="http://renewablemusic.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Renewable Music)</a> suggested we open a blog to show off these brilliant <i>pro bono</i> measures.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So "<b>Golijov's Cakewalk</b>" (yeah, I know, bad pun) is a home for those sets of measures, eventually to be a full composition for performance by Some Famous Orchestra You May Have Heard Of. Scores and audio to be posted shortly.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">We're having a little fun here, and hope that perhaps the estimable Mr. Golijov will join us with his <i>own</i> four measures. We like to share.</span><br />
